Recommendation

As time management expert Jocelyn K. Glei explains, many people have a love-hate relationship with email, but can’t imagine business or socializing without it. The business world can’t function without email, but if you don’t have a proper handle on it – and most people don’t – you’re likely to find it difficult to work at peak efficiency and productivity. This manual warns that checking your email too frequently interferes with your productivity and your happiness. It also includes scripts that address common email problems. getAbstract applauds time management expert Jocelyn K. Glei’s sensible, practical guide to taming the email monster.

Take-Aways

  • Office workers check their email an average of 74 times a day and spend nearly 30% of their workday on email.
  • Not all emails matter. Some require no response.
  • Resist the urge to check your email first thing in the morning. That’s when your brain and energy level can most readily accomplish meaningful work.

I saw this quote from the book that lead me here: "Although it might not seem intuitive at first, taking the time to show empathy and encouragement in your emails can actually make you more efficient." (Jocelyn K. Glei, Unsubscribe) <br> <br>It's interesting to me that in the effort to be efficient hand concise jthe summary did not include this idea, demonstrating exactly the problem we have when we rush. We MISS the human connection. <br> <br>Still, I like the batching of senders into different response groups. I'm going to give that a try.
