1
Build Emotional Awareness

Self-awareness is an essential leadership skill, allowing you to channel your emotions into appropriate actions and behaviors. To lead others, you must lead yourself first.

2
Practice Empathy

For employees to excel at their jobs, they must know their leaders understand them. Invest time in building an understanding of other people. Actively listen to develop a deeper understanding of their perspectives.

3
Be Vulnerable

Demonstrate humility, which communicates your need to know, and vulnerability. As a result, people will feel more comfortable sharing their ideas, allowing you to draw on their collective intelligence and knowledge.

4
Give Compassionate Feedback

Don’t hold back on giving feedback – but deliver it compassionately and in an atmosphere of mutual trust. You don’t want to discourage people or hurt their feelings, but you also don’t want to deprive the person of the opportunity to learn and grow.

5
Invest in Relationships

Meet with your team members regularly – formally and informally. Leaders who involve, include and care for their people build a lasting foundation for success.
