Define a Higher Purpose
Harness the innate human need to work with others toward a higher purpose. If your task at hand requires teamwork, invest the time and energy necessary to build and nourish a team of highly motivated individuals.

Hire Great Team Players
Hire people who have the three traits that all good team players share: humility, self-motivation and emotional intelligence.

Foster Psychological Safety
Psychological safety is essential to improving a group’s collective intelligence. To collaborate well, team member must feel comfortable to share their ideas, feedback and constructive criticisms without fear of negative repercussions.

Promote Boldness
Too much team harmony kills creativity and stifles performance. During the teambuilding stage, occasional conflicts present opportunities to air disagreements and move on. Aim at building a team that is “bold” by helping members grow, change and perform.

Provide a Structure
Collaborations are formal affairs requiring concrete plans and a clear structure to avoid wasteful deviations. In your collaboration plan, state the goals and objectives of the collaboration, as well as a reasonable projection of how long the group will need to do its work.
