The pandemic forced people to get comfortable doing business primarily online, using digital communication tools. Some pandemic business practices will be worth keeping, and a major reduction in business travel will be one of them. Now that everyone is comfortable using Zoom, will business travel really be necessary postpandemic? Emissions are down and people are spending more time at home and with their families. Duke University canceled classes due to an outbreak, for example, and Yale University canceled spring break this 2021 in an attempt to keep its students from traveling to spring break party spots where the virus might proliferate. Attempts to limit the spread seem at odds with the needs of the airline industry, which has suffered due to reduced travel. US airlines took a major hit, losing at least $35 billion dollars.
