The 2008 financial crisis made people aware of the unknown, often-mysterious inner workings of the financial industry. Considering the trillions of dollars of lost investments, the demise of venerable firms and the resulting downturn affecting households, small businesses and major corporations, the financial industry clearly plays an outsized role, for good or bad, in world commerce. Investment Banking

Investment banking in the US began before the Civil War, when brokers sold government bonds to private investors.
