Summary

In a climate increasingly hostile to the rules-based system that has governed global trade for decades, Asia continues to embrace the practice. Indeed, its consummation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in early 2018 – after the United States jettisoned its participation in an earlier iteration of the pact – speaks to the value that countries in the region place on multilateral trade.
