To compile this collection – mostly featuring other people’s ideas repurposed under the Trump banner – the author researched the work of leading experts and wove in excerpts from their work. She augments her guidance for “women who work” with personal stories and some healthy self-promotion. There’s either a certain cynicism or a deep unawareness in her assumptions that everything she suggests is possible for everyone. Moreover, she espouses corporate policies – paid maternity leave, promoting women to positions of power, offering reasonable benefits and perks, and paying an equal, living wage – that might give her an uphill fight in the presidential administration she serves. Her counsel to follow your passions, build your networks and learn to negotiate is worthy, though not innovative. However, to her credit, Trump could have settled for being a wealthy socialite. Instead, she is an industrious, committed, hard-working executive, wife and mother. Many readers will appreciate the women-helping-women theme throughout the book.
