Recommendation

American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The first wealth is health.” This holds true for businesses as well as people. In this comprehensive report, McKinsey & Company consultants Scott Keller and Colin Price draw on their extensive research to explain how companies can achieve superior business performance in the long run while maintaining their organizational health. This clear set of instructions offers a new spin on maintaining commercial success in the medium to long term; however applying the book’s program requires a dedicated time commitment. getAbstract recommends this impressive manual to leaders who want to achieve top performance, institute constructive transformational change, inspire their employees and invest in their organizations’ long-term well-being.

Take-Aways

  • Some leaders mistakenly focus on short-term performance goals and ignore their company’s long-term well-being.
  • Organizational health is just as important as financial performance.
  • Up to 80% of the market value of an organization’s shares rests on public expectation of long-term profitability.

About the Authors

Scott Keller, a McKinsey & Company director, co-founded Digital Divide Data. Colin Price heads McKinsey’s global organization practice from its London office.

To the point summary - "Beyond Performance" is a compendium for leaders searching for positive competitive advantage factors. Organizatonal health is more than the authors describe naming only sustainability as missing. Attentive readers of McKinsey's Quarterly may know the contents from multiple articles with equal subjects. It is good and inspiring fare for practitioners - less easy for beginners. Anyway a great approach for the subject itself with its own right and foundation - recommendable read.
