Cyberattacks have exploded since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic: Cloud server attacks increased sixfold between January and April 2020, while attacks on banks more than tripled.

As companies beef up their cybersecurity measures, employees’ personal networks and devices also need better protection. Along with firewalls and intrusion detection, active directory, software and cloud security will play a part.

Confidential computing will gain steam.

Confidential computing is about encrypting entire computing processes rather than just data. Members of the Confidential Computing Consortium, which include Google, Microsoft, IBM, Alibaba and VMware, are laying the foundations for developments in confidential computing. The technology’s potential contributions to cybersecurity and protecting privacy in communications and data suggest that its use will become more widespread in 2021.
