Recommendation

Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran, presents a clear message to the World Economic Forum: Iran won’t allow discrimination, violence or terrorism to compromise the nation’s economic, cultural and nuclear ambitions. Despite Rouhani’s peaceful rhetoric, he skirts the issues of Iran’s hostility toward Israel, as well as Iran’s support of Hamas in Palestine, President Bashar al-Assad in Syria and the Houthi tribe in Yemen. Though Iran may have taken a backseat to more pressing issues in the Middle East in recent times, the nation remains a potential political destabilizer. Yet it also holds a key to peace in the region. getAbstract recommends Rouhani’s address, delivered a year before 2015’s historic nuclear deal, to political aficionados and anyone concerned about stability in the Middle East.

Take-Aways

  • A philosophy of “prudent moderation” underscores the Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach to economic, social, domestic and foreign policies.
  • Only by employing “constructive engagement” with its neighbors can Iran contribute to finding solutions to intractable problems, such as climate change and the war in Syria.
  • A future of hope driven by economic development, job creation and equal opportunities can combat the despair that drives terrorism and oppression.

iran would have been a major economic player of the world if there were no economic sanctions imposed in the past and even iran's aggressive approcah was one of the driving force.
