Recommendation

With the continuing hype about the potential of electric vehicles to lower CO2 in the atmosphere, the question of effectiveness continues to inspire debate. Shrink That Footprint founder Lindsay Wilson analyzes vehicle carbon emissions in 20 leading countries, including manufacturing costs in calculating vehicle emissions. While insightful, this research has limitations in that the analysis doesn’t discuss local air pollution, vehicle operation costs and purchase prices. Nonetheless, getAbstract recommends this fascinating report to potential electric-car owners concerned about their vehicles’ impact on the environment.

    In her comparison, did the author take into account the emissions released during extraction, transportation and refinement of the oil to produce the fuel? Does she mention the amount of electricity used to refine a barrel of oil? Does she mention the reduced PM from brake wear, due to the use of regenerative braking instead of friction braking?
