According to a global study of more than 300 investment, commercial and retail banks, overall economic profit (EP) crept up for the fifth straight year in 2015, despite rising regulatory compliance costs: From 2011 to 2015, the number of daily revisions to global banking laws tripled to more than 200 changes each day, on average. Regionally, however, the EP results diverged. European banks suffered the same negative EPs as in 2014, and the gap between the top and bottom performers widened.
