Recommendation

The digital revolution propelled Arianna Huffington’s online publication, The Huffington Post, to greatness, but her health fell victim to technology’s darker side. In her signature charismatic style, Huffington exposes the addictive, potentially life-threatening downside to digital connectivity. Ironically, throughout her talk, microphones pick up unwanted sound interference, which – like technology – viewers may find distracting. Nonetheless, getAbstract recommends Huffington’s enlightening observations to digital addicts who want to regain control of their lives.

Summary

The technological revolution is a powerful, liberating force that has given voice to people worldwide. Yet at the same time, technology has led to constant digital connectivity, an addiction that has “enslaved” most users of mobile devices. Many now live their lives through their phones rather than being present in the moment. The modern work culture of being reachable 24/7 – even when on vacation – means that technology plays a large role in stress, depression, sleep deprivation, burnout and other adverse health conditions. As with any addiction, technology addiction is surmountable with deliberate behavioral change.
