• The current Internet paradigm – a free system whereby users undergo surveillance and exposure to advertising – came about during the Internet’s formative years.
• This system made sense when the Internet had few users, but it’s invalid today. However, this model prevails, and people accept it as the default.
• Similarly, as American politics have evolved, each progression seemed logical at the time, but cumulative changes have resulted in an absurd system in which congressional representatives prioritize fundraising ahead of their constituents’ needs.
