Recommendation

Autoimmune disease specialist Dr. Amy Myers makes a powerful case for her approach to dietary healing, which she discovered after she developed Graves’ disease. The initial meal plan she proposes for addressing autoimmune and inflammation issues is restrictive and demands discipline, but it’s designed to reset and clear your system – and you can add more food choices after 30 days. By then, Myers says, you should have more energy and fewer symptoms of inflammation. However, she suggests continuing to follow many of the restrictions, such as not eating dairy or gluten. Her plan may help you identify foods that trigger symptoms that have tormented you for a long time. Myers offers excellent supplementary material, including charts, menus, case studies and an extensive resources list. While never giving medical advice, getAbstract finds that her thoughtful program may offer useful guidance.

To combat these conditions, focus on “four pillars” of behavior:

  1. “Heal your gut” – Your digestive system contains 80% of the body’s immune system.
  2. “Get rid of gluten, grains [and] legumes” – They can cause chronic inflammation.
  3. “Tame the toxins” – Rid...
